Youth Friendly Doctor - Youth Friendly Doctor

Youth Friendly Doctor

The Youth Friendly Doctor program aims to make a difference to adolescents’ health and well-being.

The AMA(SA) Youth Friendly Doctor program consists of two key elements:
  • Enhance the knowledge and skills of doctors when engaging with adolescents.
  • Provide a network of Youth Friendly trained doctors that will visit schools to increase the practical knowledge and confidence of young people.
As part of the program, general practitioners who complete this training will be issued with a certificate and placed on the AMA(SA) Youth Friendly Doctor register.

A core team of AMA(SA) Youth Friendly Doctors will then be invited to conduct in schools to introduce young people to health care systems. Areas of discussion will include informing young people of the issues surrounding access to GP services, confidentiality, using Medicare and how to help with physical and emotional health problems. This information will increase the practical knowledge and confidence of young people, breaking down barriers between young patients and doctors.
